About the Public Defenders Office

The Hennepin County Public Defenders Office provides legal representation for low income adults charged with crimes, children accused of being delinquent, and children over the age of 12 who are part of a Child Protection case.

Training Provided to Summer Associates

There is a three day training program at the start, and ongoing training throughout the 12 week program.

Pro Bono/Community Involvement

All of the legal services we provide are pro bono.

Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

There is a statewide committee devoted to providing support for BIPOC employees, and on-going trainings at both the state and district level to create safe and supportive environments for employees BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ employees.

Summer Associate/Clerkship Description

Summer Clerks provide research and writing support for attorneys, have weekly courtroom observation assignments, and participate in a series of on-going training the with the Courts and other criminal justice partners.

Summer Clerkship Salary and Benefits

$25/hour, $1000 per week, $12000 for the 12 week summer program.
