Central Minnesota Legal Services is a civil legal services organization providing legal assistance to low-income individuals and families throughout 21 counties in central Minnesota. We provide direct representation, brief services and advice to individuals who qualify for our services.

One on one supervision, opportunities for student certification for court appearances, weekly meetings to check in with supervisor, shadowing other attorneys at court hearings

We are a non-profit which serves low-income people for free. We also have several legal clinics throughout our service area.
Commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
We have a weekly Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion meeting where staff discuss a new topic each week, and the meeting is staff led. We hold office trainings for the entire office on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our office participated in a series of trainings and a town hall around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Summer Associate/Clerkship Description
CMLS is seeking a summer associate interested in working with civil legal services including the areas of family law, housing, and public benefits. A summer clerk will assist attorneys in drafting pleadings and legal research, attend client interviews, attend mediations and court hearings with attorneys, and make court appearances as a certified student-attorney schedule permitting.
Successful Candidate Qualities
Interest in working on cases involving families and children vulnerable to abuse and violence. Experience working with individuals and families experiencing poverty. Experience working with a diverse client base. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Organized. Eager to learn about legal aid.
