1L Diversity Clerkship: Employer Application & Information

>> Complete the Employer Commitment Form

Note: By submitting the Employer Registration form you are committed to offering and fulfilling a full-time, paid clerkship through the 1L Diversity Clerkship program for Summer 2025. We will be distributing the completed forms to student applicants, so please be as specific as possible when filling out your organizational information.

What’s Expected

While the clerkship program is organized through the Diversity and Inclusion Committee of the HCBA, it is the individual employers who hire the students. As such, the students are afforded the same level of respect and professionalism as any other person hired by the organization.

Each participating employer will hire one or more law students at their organization’s normal salary for a first-year summer clerk position for an 8-12 week span and provide the clerk with legal work, mentoring, frequent performance feedback, and exit interviews.

Matching Interview Attendance

It is mandatory that employers participate in the Matching Day Interviews in late February and early March. On these days, employers will interview each final candidate and submit their preferences to the HCBA. In contrast to prior years, all interviews will be conducted virtually. Employers will only need to attend one day of interviews. Employers will interview and rank 10 students.

Important Program Dates

  • September 23–November 1: Employer registration
