The Minnesota Board of Law Examiners has undertaken a study of
alternative pathways to admission to the Bar of Minnesota. In this moderated discussion,
Judge Juan Hoyos, Professor Carol Chomsky, and Note Author Eura
Chang will discuss why now is the time to re-examine the bar
exam as the exclusive way for students and newer attorneys to become licensed in
Minnesota.

Eura Chang
is the author of “Barring Entry to the Legal
Profession: How the Law Condones Willful Blindness to the
Bar Exam’s Racially Disparate Impacts” and law student at the University of Minnesota Law School.
Professor Carol Chomsky is a recognized scholar of legal history and
a leader in the field of teaching development. She co-chairs a working group
as part of the Board of Law Examiner’s Competency Working
Group.

Hon. Juan Hoyos | Judge,
Fourth Judicial District
Judge Juan Hoyos is a district court judge in the Fourth
District serving Hennepin County. Before being to appointed as a judge in 2014,
Judge Hoyos worked as a public defender and then as a prosecutor in Ramsey
County. Judge Hoyos co-chairs a working group as part of the Competency Working
Group.
