Groundwater is vital to many Minnesota communities,
supplying 75 percent
of our state’s drinking water and 90 percent of agricultural
irrigation. But how do local leaders protect and sustainably manage their
water future when the availability and quality of groundwater can be impacted
by activities far beyond city limits? Are there
steps that can be taken at the local level,
even with limited technical information? We would offer that local units
of government and tribal nations need more robust ordinances to better manage shared water
resources, especially groundwater. Join us for a panel that will provide transparency
to the current system and offer opportunities for legal and policy
improvements.
