Event Description
Congress enacted the VPPA in the late 1980s, in response to
a news article that featured a list of a then Supreme Court nominee’s (somewhat
boring) video rental history. It was one of many federal privacy statutes
enacted during that time period, but unlike all of the others, the VPPA was
mostly forgotten…until late 2021. Join class action litigator Matt Thornton
(Ballard Spahr LLP) as he walks us through VPPA basics, talks about the recent
tidal wave of class actions alleging that websites using Facebook Pixel are
violating the statute, discusses the latest rulings in those cases, and
more.
