MSBA Immigration Law Section
MN/Dakotas AILA Chapter, Pro Bono Committee

Between COVID-19 and a change in administration, the legal representation of immigrants remains at a constant flux. Processing times at USCIS are ballooning and consulates abroad are reopening at disparate rates. Furthermore, since late January 2021, President Biden has begun rolling back many of the previous administration’s immigration policies and regulations. New eligibility criteria for DACA, TPS, DED and other forms of relief provides new paths for clients. Attorneys who provide pro bono representation—whether immigration attorneys or in other private practice—must tackle the ethical and legal ramifications of continual change in the law. Attendees will hear from a panel of volunteers, non-profit pro bono program staff, and ethics experts on how to successfully manage their pro bono caseload during this intriguing era of immigration law.
