Don Erickson of Fryberger, Buchanan, Smith & Frederick, P.A. in Duluth is no stranger to pro bono and has been recognized as an MSBA NorthStar Lawyer every year since 2014. Don is an MSBA certified Labor and Employment Law Specialist and represents clients in employment-related cases for Legal Services of Northeastern Minnesota (LASNEM).
During the pandemic, the need for pro bono has been particularly high in this area of law. Recently, Don took on the case of an over the road trucker who had been furloughed due to the pandemic. The client, thanks to Mr. Erickson’s advocacy, was ultimately awarded unemployment benefits in the total amount of over $24,000 dollars!
This award brought much-needed stability to the client’s life and is a wonderful example of the tangible impact pro bono attorneys can have on a client’s life. Don donated a total of 28.5 pro bono hours in the matter.
