Minnesota State Bar Association Announces Results of Poll on Two Contested Supreme Court Judicial Races and One Contested Court of Appeals Race

September 4, 2024 — A poll of all 12,776 MSBA attorney members was held regarding the two contested supreme court judicial seats and the one contested court of appeals seat. 

The MSBA poll was conducted between August 19 and September 3, 2024. Approximately 15.5% to 15.8% of the membership voted, depending on the race. 

The purpose of the poll is to collect and make information available to the general electorate. This information, combined with voter guides, candidate questionnaires, news articles, and other sources, relates to contested judicial elections and can be considered by the public when deciding whom to vote for in the general election. The online poll was voluntary and conducted in a neutral and unbiased manner. The results of the poll do not constitute an endorsement of any candidate by the MSBA. 


MSBA Poll Results


Supreme Court Chief Justice 

  • Natalie Hudson, Supreme Court Chief Justice since October, 2023
    92.93% (1,866 votes); 
  • Stephen A. Emery 
    7.07% (142 votes) of the 2,008 total votes. 

 Supreme Court Associate Justice – Seat 6 

  • Karl Procaccini, Supreme Court Associate Justice since October, 2023 
    89.29% (1,759 votes); 
  • Matthew R. Hanson 
    10.71% (211 votes) of the 1,970 total votes. 

Court of Appeals 

  • Diane B. Bratvold, Court of Appeals Judge since March, 2016 
    93.13% (1,843 votes); 
  • Jonathan R. Woolsey
    6.87% (136 votes) of the 1,979 total votes.
