Making the most of new data analytics and visualization tools

Event Description

Deadline to Register: October 4, 2018

BROWN BAG LUNCH

The traditional legal research path encourages lawyers to use reputable secondary sources or keyword searches to identify primary materials: case law, statutes, rules, and regulations. But, the rise of Computer-Aided Legal Research means a wide diversity of non-primary resources like trial court orders, dockets, and settlement summaries are now helping attorneys and their clients make decisions based on information entirely unrelated to substantive legal principles. In this session, we’ll explore how to make the most out of new analytical tools available from traditional legal research providers like Fastcase, Westlaw, and Lexis.

Speaker:

Mike Carlson, Attorney Editor, MSBA. Mike served 10 years at Thomson Reuters as a Reference Staff Attorney where he performed legal research, analyzed feedback, and provided trainings. Mike now serves the online services team at the Minnesota State Bar Association.
