Litigating a Malpractice Claim From The New Lawyers’ Perspective

The Minnesota State Bar Association, the New Lawyers’ Section, and the New Lawyers’ Section Law School Engagement Committee are excited to announce a first-ever series of practice-based presentations geared towards law students and new lawyers on various areas of law.

Robins Kaplan, LLP attorney Liz Fors will kick off the first series of presentations by discussing her experiences working as a medical malpractice litigation associate on the landmark verdict she secured with her colleagues in Edward Bermingham IV v. Patricia Eid NP el al.. Ms. Fors will provide a background of the Bermingham matter and address what it was like to work a complex medical malpractice case from pre-litigation investigation stage through the end of trial. Chris Messerly and Liz obtained the largest wrongful death case in state history and what is believed to be the third largest verdict in United States history for a wrongful death case for these types of damages. Liz will also provide pleadings and other written materials that her firm prepared during the course of litigation.

About the Presenter

Elizabeth Fors, an associate at Robins Kaplan, is passionate about helping those who have been injured from medical malpractice or personal injury. She graduated summa cum laude from Hamline University School of Law, which she attended part-time while working full-time as a paralegal. In her first eighteen months as trial lawyer, she served as co-counsel on three medical malpractice trials.
