During
the most recent session, the Minnesota legislature placed new prohibitions on
firearm possession for individuals subject to domestic violence restrictions and
orders for protection. This CLE
will provide background and overview of the new law, including important
implications for attorneys and their clients. Speakers include the bill’s
author, Senator Ron Latz, and Liz Richards, Executive Director of the Minnesota
Coalition for Battered Women.

Ron Latz
Senator
Ron Latz is a District 46 Minnesota State Senator and licensed, practicing
Minnesota attorney. He
serves as the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee and Finance Division, and
on the Senate’s Finance Committee and Commerce Committee.
Liz
Richards
Attorney
Liz Richards is the Executive Director at the Minnesota Coalition for
Battered Women. Her areas of expertise include civil court advocacy work,
specifically focusing on child custody issues. Ms. Richards has over thirty
years of experience working with battered women. She has worked as the training
program manager for the Battered Women’s Legal Advocacy Project, a battered
women’s advocate with the Domestic Abuse Project/Hennepin County Attorney’s
Office, and as an investigator of civil rights complaints for the City of
Minneapolis and the State of Minnesota.
