Deadline
to Register: Thursday, June 19,
2014
As
the most popular of the four major American professional sports, the NFL is an
industry unto itself. While many
NFL players are very highly paid, they have some of the lowest compensation
figures in pro sports—and the shortest careers on average. Blake Baratz, agent and
founder/president of The Institute for Athletes will discuss the career
challenges facing NFL athletes entering the business of the NFL, financial
responsibility for players, and endorsement deals.
Lunch will begin at Noon, followed by the CLE program from
12:15 p.m. - 1:15 p.m. Special
meal requests need to be received no later than Thursday, June 19. Prior
to the program, the section will hold its annual meeting and elect new officers
and council members for the 2014-2015 term.
Speaker:
Blake
Baratz, The Institute for Athletes
Blake
Baratz is the founder and president of The Institute for Athletes, in
Minneapolis, Minnesota, a full service sports representation firm working with
clients who primarily play in the National Football League. Blake has established himself as one of
the young leaders in the sports representation industry today. Utilizing a
decade of experience, Blake’s unique ability to understand and adjust to the
complex issues associated with life as a professional athlete has made him an
invaluable asset to all of his clients and their families.
Blake
oversees all of the company’s day-to-day operations, contract negotiations,
client relations, brand management, draft preparation, training and business
development efforts. In addition to
leading the team, his track record of developing and cultivating deep,
meaningful relationships with his clients and their families continues to be at
the forefront of the company’s agenda.
Prior
to founding The Institute for Athletes, Blake spent a number of years working at
a large sports management firm in Los Angeles where he acquired his
understanding of the representation industry both on and off the playing
field.
