Contaminated
sediments pose a significant problem in Minnesota and throughout the Great Lakes
region. Created by decades of
industrial and municipal discharges, and non-point source runoff, high
concentrations of contaminants remain in the sediments of rivers and harbors,
resulting in fish consumption advisories and other health and environmental
concerns. Sediment cleanups are
expensive and complicated. EPA and many states are increasingly turning
their attention to this problem and related natural resource damage claims are
multiplying.
Join
us for a presentation that will provide an overview of the sediment
contamination problem, highlight legal issues and remediation strategies and
present a case study of a cleanup where significant cost savings resulted from
the building of a collaborative effort between the legal and technical
teams.
