Contractors and their attorneys face a bewildering array
of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to the hiring of women,
minorities, and other groups to work on construction projects. Similarly complex
laws govern goals associated with the participation (typically as
subcontractors) of businesses owned by minorities, women, and members
of other groups in construction projects. Commissioner Kevin Lindsey from the
Minnesota Department of Human Rights will lead a panel discussion among industry
and government leaders regarding these issues, including the new goals, and how
the industry has responded to the new goals. The panel also will discuss
how these issues will be addressed during construction of the new Minnesota
Multi Purpose Stadium. The panel also includes Velma Korbel (Director of
the Department of Civil Rights, City of Minneapolis), Alex Tittle (Equity
Director for the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority), and Lynn Littlejohn
(Director of Community Affairs, Mortenson Construction). Jesse Orman from
the Fabyanske, Westra, Hart & Thomson law firm will moderate the
discussion. Construction attorneys and other industry professionals will
benefit from a deeper understanding of these issues. Discussion,
questions, and input from the audience are welcome.
