Mens Rea in Minnesota's Criminal Law: Origins, Developments and Challenges

Event Description

William Mitchell College of Law Professor Ted Sampsell-Jones will present on his recent article, “Mens Rea in Minnesota and the Model Penal Code,” which argues that Minnesota’s reliance on the common law of mens rea, rather than the Model Penal Code, has created confusion in Minnesota’s criminal law on mens rea issues.  A panel of experts and practitioners will respond to Professor Sampsell-Jones’s article, and discuss developments in the law and practice pointers for litigating mens rea issues at trial and on appeal.

Good parking options are the meters on Cedar Street or in lot Q (up the hill past the Capitol building) or in lot K (down Cedar Street the other direction at 12th Street).  This map shows the good lots:  http://www.leg.state.mn.us/graphics/capitol_complex_01.pdf

We will be giving away a copy of Point Made by Ross Guberman, who will be speaking at the Appellate Practice Institute in March.
