Originally spousal maintenance was ordered in cases where a wife stayed
home for many years, giving up her own ability to have a career or get
retirement benefits by raising children and taking care of a husband and
home. That is no longer the case. We have seen the pendulum swing
several ways over the years and with the Passolt case there appears to be
another change in the air. We are also seeing a change with more women
being the primary bread winner. A small panel of family law attorneys will
discuss what they have seen recently with regard to spousal maintenance and will
encourage attendees to share what they have seen as well.
After the CLE we hope you will join us at Lyon's
Pub in downtown Minneapolis for a
meet
and greet. This is a great opportunity to socialize
with your fellow solo and small firm and family law practitioners. Complimentary appetizers will
be provided by the Solo and Small Firm Section.
