Performing in Canada: Helping Clients With Colorful Pasts Cross The Border To Work

Event Description

Deadline to Register:  April 18, 2017

Whether by land, sea, or air, U.S. citizens with prior DWIs and other convictions are inadmissible to Canada.  Learn about available solutions to overcome this hurdle, without jumping a wall!  Join Attorney Satveer S. Chaudhary and the Art and Entertainment Section for a unique discussion on border issues with our Canadian neighbors in these changing times.

Why attend?

Attorneys with artist/entertainer clients have inevitably encountered the problem of entering Canada with prior convictions, or even pending charges, sometimes resulting in lost work opportunities and cancelled appearances.  This CLE will separate myth from fact so attorneys can help their clients find the best solutions.

Who may attend?

Members of the MSBA, law students, the public.

Speaker:

Attorney Satveer S. Chaudhary has practiced immigration and criminal defense law for the last 17 years with a primary client base of noncitizens.  As an avid hunter and angler, as well, he first developed this niche practice with Canadian associates to assist fellow sportsmen and women traveling to Canada.  The practice has since spread to many Americans in need, including artists, entertainers, athletes, doctors, truckers, pilots, and businesspeople.

He has also presented at seminars to Canadian lodges and resorts regarding border entry impacts of criminal convictions, and written numerous articles on a variety of immigration topics.  With his Canadian associates, his firm has helped numerous Americans overcome their inadmissibility to Canada.

From 1997-2011, he served as a Minnesota State Senator, and member of Minnesota House of Representatives, sitting on Judiciary committees for most of his tenure.
He has taught criminal law and immigration at William Mitchell College of Law, and presented CLE's on immigration consequences of criminal convictions.

Vice Chair: Daniel  Boen, attorney at The Boen Law Office. Dan will give brief introductory remarks and update attendees on Arts & Entertainment section programming development and collaboration.

Join us for a happy hour and mixer following the CLE.
