If
you are a corporate attorney of a company that engages in international business
or owns assets overseas, you need to know about some of the basic aspects of
U.S. tax law concerning international activities of U.S. persons (whether
businesses or their owners).
This
CLE will provide non-tax practitioners
with a basic understanding of international tax law that would allow these
attorneys to identify some of the potential tax issues that their clients may
face at an early stage of representation.
The
CLE will cover
the basics of the following top three international tax compliance issues
relevant to U.S. corporate law: foreign financial accounts reporting, foreign
business ownership reporting, and complications associated with two main
anti-deferral regimes (Passive Foreign Investment Company income and Subpart F
income). The speaker will also
introduce the audience to the penalty structures of some of the major
international tax forms and provide general guidance on how to proceed if you
believe your client may have international tax compliance
issues.
