What is it like for someone who is transgender to practice
law? What challenges do transgender individuals face in accessing the
health care system and obtaining coverage for medically necessary
services? Ellen Krug will share personal and practical insight from her life experiences as, first and
foremost, a human being, who is also an attorney and a consumer of
health care. Ellen is an accomplished writer and lecturer who practiced law
as a trial attorney in Boston and Cedar Rapids, IA, before becoming
the first Executive Director of Call for Justice, LLC.
Phil Duran (Legal Director, OutFront
Minnesota) will provide a current health law update of laws, legislation, and
case law—both local and nationwide—affecting transgender individuals as
patients, health plan members, and employees receiving health benefits.
Health law and non-health law attorneys alike will benefit from this
personal insight and legal update on a landscape that is evolving by the
