Sharpening
Important Tools of Your Trade - Better lawyering through intentional focus on
vivid language, persuasive metaphors, and magic forensic words
Co-sponsored by the Practice Management and Marketing, and New
Lawyers Sections
Deadline to Register: March 7,
2016
Chief Justice John G. Roberts
was once quoted as saying
"Language
is the
central tool of our trade." We might assume we are masters of
language, but in fact mastery of language for persuasive purposes is an
art that requires conscious attention just as much as
investigating the facts of a case do.
Among the opportunities - using
more vivid words, finding and fitting the best metaphors to your situation, and
ferreting out smoking guns by focusing on a core set of potentially inculpatory
terms and indirect patterns of speech.
Lunch and registration will begin
at 12:00 p.m. The program will begin at 12:15
p.m.
Presenter:
Former PMM chair LaVern Pritchard is the founder of
Pritchard Law Webs, through which he publishes LawMoose and its larger more
sophisticated offspring, the Laugment lawyer augmentation system. Laugment
functions as a legal brainstorming and problem solving network, law practice
intellectual capital system, and Internet command center. It does so by
capturing and organizing the building blocks of legal thought and actions and
the contexts in which legal problems and
opportunities arise.
