Event Description
Deadline to Register: Thursday, May 26, 2016
Keynote Speaker:
Justice Christopher Dietzen on Developing
Trends in Administrative Law
This
year’s annual meeting features a presentation by Justice Dietzen on recent
Minnesota cases of particular interest to Admin Law practitioners. Please
join us to hear Justice Dietzen’s thoughts about possible trends in how the
Supreme Court looks at “our” cases.
Justice
Dietzen joined the Minnesota Court of Appeals in December 2004, following an
appointment by Governor Tim Pawlenty, and was elevated to the Minnesota Supreme
Court in February 2008. Justice Dietzen recently announced that he will
step down from that position on August 31, 2016. Justice Dietzen currently
serves as the chair of the Minnesota Sentencing Guidelines Commission, and is a
member of the Minnesota Judicial Council, the policy-making body of the
Minnesota Judicial Branch. He is also the Supreme Court’s liaison to the
Advisory Committee on the Rules of Civil Procedure.
Prior to the CLE, there will be a short presentation on the Section’s
plans for the new Beck Fellowships, which will provide
financial
support and law school credit to law students nominated
by their law schools for externships at the Office of Administrative
Hearings. There will also be a review of administrative law issues addressed in
this year’s legislative session, a recap of the Section’s activities over the
past year, and election of the Section’s officers for the next
year.
Everyone is invited to the annual breakfast to reconnect
with colleagues and meet others who are interested in Administrative
Law. Breakfast will start at 7:30 a.m.
followed by the CLE
program from 8-9:30 a.m.
Special
meal requests need to be received no later than Thursday, May 26.
