The MSBA's Tax Section Presents
"Representing Low-Income Taxpayers in Tax Controversies"
This CLE will educate attorneys about the unique issues facing taxpayers with low incomes many of whom have limited English or low literacy skills. In many circumstances, the taxing authorities’ processes and procedures do not specifically cater to the circumstances of taxpayers facing these barriers. This can place unusual burdens on both the taxpayer and the attorney assisting them. This CLE will explore how we, as attorneys, can work to change the bias against clients with low literacy and English language skills and discuss how attorneys can work together to make sure all taxpayers receive equal treatment from taxing authorities.
