Everyone needs an occasional refresher class. Three frequent commentators on the SoloSmall Listserve will remind you of the most common real estate transactional mistakes and how to avoid them, what to look for in mortgage foreclosures, and where to find the forms and facts to better serve your real estate clients.
Robert Beutel (Panelist), Attorney at Law
Bob is a 1970 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School. He was in private practice for 15 years, and then was appointed by the judges of the Second Judicial District in 1985 to be the Examiner of Titles. In that position he worked with hundreds of lawyers in the clearance of title defects by judicial action. He tried as Referee a variety of contested real estate cases. He retired from this position in 2005 and now is in a co-counseling practice.
He works by advising on cases, drafts documents, examines titles, and makes court appearances. He has testified as an expert witness in an attorney malpractice case. Attorneys typically retain Bob for complex or unfamiliar cases or to help with excess workload.
He authored two chapters in Minnesota Practice – Practice Methods on Examination of Titles and Registration of Titles. He has presented numerous CLEs on Handling Real Estate in Divorces and Handling Real Estate in Probate as well as Mortgage foreclosures and Torrens Titles. His blog (bobbeutel.wordpress.com) contains posts on Real Estate in Divorces and Conveyances by Religious Corporations.
Nathan Bissonette (Panelist), Ramsey County, Deputy Examiner of Titles
Nathan Bissonette graduated from St. John’s University in 1981, William Mitchell in 1986 and practiced in small and solo firms until he was appointed Deputy Examiner of Titles for Ramsey County in 2003.
Kevin Dunlevy (Panelist), Beisel & Dunlevy, P.A.
Kevin Dunlevy is a partner in the Minneapolis law firm of Beisel and Dunlevy, PA where he practices in the areas of real estate litigation, real estate transactions and creditor’s remedies. He is a real property law specialist, certified by the Minnesota State Bar Association. Mr. Dunlevy is experienced in real estate transactions, foreclosure, evictions and other creditors' remedies. He received his B.A. degree, cum laude, and his J.D. degree from the University of North Dakota. He is a frequent presenter at seminars for attorneys, title companies, realtors and lenders, and he has written numerous articles and publications for professional and trade groups. Mr. Dunlevy is a member of the Hennepin County, Minnesota State and American bar associations, as well as the State Bar Association of North Dakota and the State Bar of Wisconsin. He co-chairs the Legislative Committee of the Real Property Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association and is a past chair of the Title Insurance Litigation Committee of the ABA's Torts and Insurance Practice Section.
