CLE Program and Meeting
Race, Gender and Diversity in the Courtroom
4:25 p.m. - 5:25 p.m.
1.0 hour of elimination of bias CLE credit to be applied for
Race, gender and diversity in the courtroom should be considered in the presentation of a case to a jury and in working with diverse counsel. This CLE will assist attorneys with identifying potential bias and with developing effective strategies on how to best communicate with diverse jurors and legal counsel. The presenter will begin by providing information on how to understand courtroom bias including juror perceptions and pre-existing beliefs, the effect of community/cultural beliefs, and understanding stereotyping and its effect on the message. They will then address effective communication strategies with persons of a different race or gender and the dynamics of diverse legal counsel. The presentation will end with information on what drives juror decision making and how diversity in juror deliberations can effect group decision making.
5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
