Other Section Accomplishments

This was the first full year for the new Section.  The first year goals included:

  1. Create a network of those attorneys who are veterans and those that want to work with veterans and the military.
  1. Ensure that the Bar is educated on the unique issues of veterans and service members.
  1. Sponsor CLEs to help accomplish number 1 and 2.
  1. Continue to expand the Military & Veterans Affairs Section Pro Bono List-Serv that has been set up to assist those service members and their families that are having legal difficulties because of recent or current deployments.
  1. Creating and supporting legislation to help veterans and service members.
  1. Quarterly meetings of the membership.
  1. Mentoring veterans and service members who are either brand new to the profession or are working their way through law school.

Many of these goals were met.  During the next year the membership of the Section will continue to meet these goals and expand into other areas.

The section was also active in several legislative items throughout the year.

Section leadership participated in the General Assembly.  When asked the Section also acted on issues from other Sections and Committees.

Members of the section council were active in presenting several CLEs to outside groups.
