Section Membership

As of 06/30/2013 the Section has 1,094 members.

 

 

Financial Status

The Section had an account balance of $29,802 (including investments) as of April 30, 2013.  The total revenue for 2012-2013 was $20,798.75 (without investment transfers).  The total expenses for 2012-2013 were $9,132.20.  The loss carried over from 7/1/2012 was ($21,558.38).

  1. Participated in a dialogue regarding custody presumption issues with Miki Kashtan to attempt to work with those advocating for a joint custody presumption to try to find a mutually agreeable resolution.
  2. Hosted the Minnesota Family Law Institute with MNCLE
  3. Presented a 1 hour long CLE, Falling Through the Cracks, at the MSBA’s 9 Days in June
  4. Advocated to the State Court Administrator regarding parenting time supervision standards
  5. Advocated to the Minnesota Supreme Court (Minn. Supreme Court Civil Justice Reform Task Force) regarding an exemption for family court cases to the new Minn. R. Civ. P. 3 & 5.04 regarding “pocket filing.”  This request was granted and family court cases are exempt from the rule change.
  6. Kept a balanced Family Law Section budget, and worked on new budget targets, so that the Family Law Section will continue to be solvent.
  7. Reached out to new attorneys be the continuation of the “No Such Thing As a Stupid Question” forum prior to business meetings to encourage new membership
  8. Implemented new “opt out” rule for the Family Law Listserve, which resulted in increased participation in the Listserve.
