Movie Review - “Win Win”

Did you ever think there would be a film featuring an elder law attorney? Or that that elder law attorney would be played by Paul Giamatti? Or that the producers could have obtained ethics credits for each state’s continuing legal education programs?

“Win Win” is now showing at Minneapolis theaters. It is co-written by New Jersey elder law attorney, Joe Tiboni. I saw it last night and it’s great. Funny even. I’ve represented many families dealing with Alzheimers and many dealing with a child needing to be in the custody of someone other than a parent – and this film brings those issues to life in an approachable and genuine way. If you have a son, nephew, or grandson who is 15 and struggling a bit, you will recognize him in Kyle Timmons.

The film is funny and gritty and you feel like you are in the kitchen (or assisted living facility, or gym or running path) with the characters. The issues are not far from those we grapple with every day - a grandfather who is in the beginning stages of Alzheimer’s, his long-lost daughter (who should have remained lost), his grandson who is looking for some stability, and Giamatti – struggling to be a good elder law attorney, father, wrestling coach, etc. It’s definitely worth seeing on the big screen!
