Other Section Accomplishments
We started the 2011-12 year by surveying our membership.  The survey helped us determine where to hold our meetings, identify speakers for our CLEs and identify issues that were most important to our membership.  Our Council set goals for the section based in part on the survey results.  Our primary goal was to create interesting CLE topics and bring in new speakers.  The feedback that we received was very positive.  We also wanted to involve the Department of Commerce and the Public Utilities Commission more.  We were fortunate to have the Commissioner of the Department of Commerce and a Public Utilities Commission Commissioner speak to our members.

We also started planning for future activities.  We have started working on a potential Section newsletter that we would expect to go out 2-3 times per year.  The Department of Commerce and the PUC have agreed to participate in that effort.  We also hope to honor a member of the bar each year at the annual forum for contributions to Communications Law in Minnesota.  We are also exploring ways to include law students and newer lawyers in our Section.

Finally, we had an amazing Annual Communications Law Forum.  We had 2 State Department Commissioners and the former Speaker of the House as speakers as well as national experts from the FCC and on 911.  It was well-attended and very interesting.  The feedback on the Annual Communications Law Forum was also incredibly positive.
