The MSBA's Civil Litigation and New Lawyers Sections Present


"Effective Deposition Techniques: What litigators can learn from modern film and television clips "

Join litigators Bruce Candlin, Bob Bennett, and Jon Farnsworth as they discuss the do's and don'ts of taking an effective deposition. This hour-long interactive CLE will include analysis of video clips from popular television shows, such as The Office and Better Off Ted. The goal of the CLE is to provide helpful tips practitioners can immediately incorporate into their practice.


Robert Bennett (Panelist), Gaskins Bennett Birrell Schupp LLP
Robert Bennett is a trial lawyer and has been one for more than 30 years. He has successfully litigated to verdict scores of matters, including cases involving civil rights law and police misconduct, auto and truck accident cases, product liability cases, and commercial disputes of all types, more often on behalf of the plaintiff or claimant.

Bruce P. Candlin (Panelist), Travelers Companies Inc
Bruce Candlin has worked for Travelers (formerly The St. Paul Companies) for 20 years. He is the manager of the Minnesota Civil Litigation office. He has been elected to the American Board of Trial Advocates, certified and recertified as a Civil Trial Specialist by the Minnesota State Bar Association, and has been chosen as a Super Lawyer by Law and Politics magazine. Mr. Candlin also serves as adjunct faculty for William Mitchell College of Law.

Jon L. Farnsworth (Panelist), Felhaber, Larson, Fenlon & Vogt, P.A.
Jon Farnsworth represents commercial clients in civil litigation matters. Jon acts as outside general counsel to privately-held companies, providing customized legal solutions to enhance their commercial endeavors. He represents clients in a variety of business and litigation matters. Jon has an M.B.A. and welcomes the opportunity to work with entrepreneurs and start-up companies.
