MSBA Business Law Section
Dear MSBA Business Law Section Member:
As co-chairs of your Section’s Pro Bono Committee, we hope you take pride in the Section’s commitment to promoting the kind of community service that only business lawyers can provide. You should! Pro bono service displays our profession at its best.
That’s why we encourage you to include LegalCORPS in your 2013 year-end giving. (An ideal opportunity would be Thursday – Give to the Max Day – at givemn.razoo.com/story/Legalcorps).
Why LegalCORPS? Because it is path the Section uses to carry out its aspirations for business law pro bono. The Section provides some financial support for LegalCORPS (less than in the past), but it also needs your individual support.
LegalCORPS is a small nonprofit that provides free legal assistance to low-income entrepreneurs and small nonprofits throughout Minnesota – exclusively through the services of the 450+ volunteer attorneys on its roster. See its web site – legalcorps.org – for details on its programs and how you could become a volunteer attorney yourself.
LegalCORPS and its supporters recognize that business law can promote social justice. It supports self-sufficiency and community service. It arranges legal assistance that delivers “preventive medicine” for problems that could be fatal to a small business venture or nonprofit mission.
On Give to the Max Day 2013 (November 14), five firms’ challenge fund will match – up to a total of $3,000 – individual donations to LegalCORPS made online at givemn.razoo.com/story/Legalcorps. That fund will double a contribution to LegalCORPS.
Furthermore, every hour on November 14, GiveMN.org will pick a donor to a nonprofit at random and add $1,000 to his/her contribution.
You could further increase the impact of your support by making a recurring “sustaining” gift to LegalCORPS – an easy step on givemn.razoo.com/story/Legalcorps. Of course, checks mailed to LegalCORPS, 600 Nicollet Mall, Suite 380, Minneapolis, MN 55402 would work as well.
Thanks for your consideration!
