Presenter:
Professor John Lande, University of Missouri School of Law
Professor John Lande will provide an overview on his study of "Cooperative" lawyers in Wisconsin and describe why this distinct form of practice is offered in addition to traditional litigation and Collaborative Law representation. Although Wisconsin lawyers only use a Cooperative process in family cases, it can be readily applied in many other types of cases. You will also hear how mediators are involved in Cooperative cases.
Professor Lande will provide you with practical suggestions about how lawyers can apply these principles in appropriate cases to achieve satisfying results for clients and lawyers.
John Lande is the Isidor Loeb Professor and Director of the LLM Program in Dispute Resolution at the University of Missouri School of Law. He received his J.D. from Hastings College of Law and Ph.D in sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He began mediating professionally in 1982 in California. His work focuses on various aspects of dispute systems design, which include publications analyzing how lawyering and mediation practices will transform each other, designing court-connected mediation programs, improving the quality of mediation practice, the "vanishing trial," and Cooperative and Collaborative law. Professor Lande was awarded for best professional article in 2007 by the International Institute for Conflict Prevention and Resolution. His award-winning article is titled, "Principles for Policymaking about Collaborative Law and Other ADR Processes," and can be found on his website at www.law.missouri.edu/lande/.
