Religion and Politics at the Mediation Table: Managing Values-Based Disputes

Event Description

Deadline to Register: September 10, 2017

Please note that the Section Business Meeting starts at 12 noon and the CLE is at 12:15 pm.

Lunch is brown bag. Refreshments will be provided, however.

Nothing arouses passionate discourse quite like talking about politics and/or religion. Sometimes known as "values-based" or "identity-based" disputes, these seemingly unresolvable and polarizing topics can be tough to encounter, especially when we ourselves hold an opinion that threatens our impartiality. By reviewing core ADR practices such as interest identification and reframing, participants will learn how to engage with these subject areas in a way that fosters mutual understanding and resolution between parties with differing points of view.

Elise Chambers, Program Director | Conflict Resolution Center

Alex Glassmann, Mediator | Erickson Mediation Institute
