Event Description
Deadline to Register: June 27
This is a panel discussion featuring Practical Advice on Hot
Topics in U.S. immigration law, with a focus on ethical considerations and
challenges. Rather than cover a few topics in detail, we plan to "issue spot" on
a wide range of topics to assist practitioners in identifying current
trends:
The status of discretionary programs – DACA and
TPS;
Ethical considerations for Changing
Rules/Processes/Programs;
The ethics of asylum representation;
Dealing with slow processing times – at the new downtown
Minneapolis Field Office and all the regional service centers, plus NVC/U.S.
consulates;
Update on local EOIR/Immigration Court priorities;
RFEs on I-864 affidavits of support;
The availability of Mexican police certificates;
H-1B challenges (cap/cap-exempt/specialty occupation/site
visits);
Volatility of Employment-Based Visa Numbers and the monthly
Visa Bulletin;
EB I-485s and "Supplement J";
Is PERM actually a bright spot in EB immigration?
I-9 Compliance/Litigation/Sanctions ("Hire American; Buy
American");
Ongoing aggressiveness of ICE, as well as Customs & Border
Protection
