Deadline to Register: March 31,
2017
The number of housing with services establishments in
Minnesota grew from 780 in 2001 to 1,558 in 2016. These
establishments include facilities commonly identified as “assisted living,” “memory care,” or
“senior living.” Meanwhile, the number of nursing home beds decreased
by nearly 8,000. Currently, more residents are being served
in housing with services establishments than nursing homes.
The rise of alternative care models,
funding challenges, staff shortages, and increasing reports of maltreatments of
vulnerable adults create areas of mutual concern for consumers, advocates, and
administrators in the long-term care industry.
How can elder law attorneys and providers
navigate unforeseen care issues and conflicts when the wellbeing of a vulnerable
adult is at stake? To what extent should residents and facilities know,
and communicate, the scope of services needed when a long-term care contract is
created?
This CLE sponsored by MSBA Elder Law
Section will address these questions and others to help consumers, advocates,
and providers alike avoid and manage conflict. Five professionals from different
sectors serving seniors will each present on an emerging issue observed in their
field. The panel will then discuss questions from the moderator regarding each
issue. Issues discussed will include the relationship of housing and
services in residential care environments, care plans based on assessed need,
electronic monitoring, consumer fraud, and investigation of suspected
maltreatment.
Registration and breakfast will begin at
8:00 a.m. Breakfast buffet will include muffins, fruit, eggs, bacon,
sausage, hashed browns, sweet rolls, coffee, tea, and orange juice.
