Volunteers Fight Hunger Overseas

Members of the St. Cloud-area legal community gathered on February 12 at Kids Against Hunger of Central Minnesota in Sauk Rapids to prepare meal packets for shipment to Sierra Leone.

Jointly sponsored by the Central Minnesota Chapter of Minnesota Women Lawyers and the Stearns/Benton County Bar Association, the volunteers packaged almost 8,000 meals in the course of the day and donated nearly $1,000 to Kids Against Hunger to help purchase the ingredients that go into the meal packets.

Kids Against Hunger is a volunteer-driven effort to provide short-term humanitarian relief in communities worldwide where crisis has struck and food is needed immediately. Since it began in March 2003 as an independent satellite of Feeding Children International, Kids Against Hunger has enlisted more than 3,500 volunteers to package over 1 million meals for distribution in crisis situations around the world.

Headquartered in New Hope, Minnesota, the organization lists nine sites throughout Minnesota as well as sites in more than 15 other states of the United States and in Canada.  Further information about the organization can be found on their website at www.kidsagainsthungercm.org.
