Committees

The Assembly has five committees to assist in the development of policy and recommendations. Unless specifically approved by the Assembly, members of Assembly committees must be members of the Assembly.

The committees and their duties are:

Elections/Appointments - Study and make recommendations related to the election of officers, representatives to the Council, LawPAC trustees, Minnesota State Bar Foundation Board members, and nominees to outside boards.

Upcoming Elections:

On June 28, the Assembly, sitting as the members of the Minnesota State Bar Foundation, will elect directors of the Foundation.  The three-year terms of the following directors expire on June 30, 2013: John Bultena, Ramsey County; Patrick Costello, Jackson County; Jill Prohofsky, Hennepin County; Pat Trask, Crow Wing County; and Erin O’Toole-Tomczik, Sherburne County.  Mr. Bultena, Mr. Costello, Ms. Prohofsky, and Ms. Trask are eligible to serve an additional term. 

Ms. O’Toole-Tomczik is not eligible to serve another term.

Ms. Trask is not interested in serving an additional term.

General Policy - Study and make recommendations related to MSBA positions on public policy; petitions to the court regarding the operation of the courts and the regulation of the practice of law; referendum of the MSBA membership; and reports of MSBA sections and committees. more info

Governance - Study and make recommendations relating to sections, affiliated organizations, standing and ad hoc committees as well as new Assembly committees.

Judiciary - To study; to educate the public, the bar and legislators; and to recommend and help implement action by the MSBA regarding the preservation of a fair and impartial judiciary. more info

Legislative - Study and make recommendations related to legislative and lobbying priorities, and approve requests to establish official MSBA positions. more info
