Committees

The Assembly has five committees to assist in the development of policy and recommendations. Unless specifically approved by the Assembly, members of Assembly committees must be members of the Assembly.

The committees and their duties are:

Elections/Appointments - Study and make recommendations related to the election of officers, representatives to the Council, LawPAC trustees, Minnesota State Bar Foundation Board members, and nominees to outside boards.

Upcoming Elections:

1.   Review Qualifications and Interest Statements submitted for one position on the Client Security Board.
The term of Dana Banwer, Hennepin County, expires June 30, 2014.  Ms. Banwer has served one term and is eligible, but not interested in serving an additional term.

A Qualifications and Interest Statement has been submitted by Stuart Williams, Hennepin County.

2. Review Qualifications and Interest Statements submitted for two positions on the State Board of Continuing Legal Education. The terms of Cameron Seybolt, Hennepin County, and Daniel R. Kelly, Hennepin County, expire June 30, 2014.  Mr. Seybolt and Mr. Kelly have served two terms and are not eligible to serve additional terms.

Qualifications and Interest Statements have been submitted by Samuel Edmunds, Dakota County, and Kevin Hofman, Hennepin County.

3. Review Qualifications and Interest Statements submitted for two positions on the Legal Services Advisory Committee. The terms of Diane Dube, Hennepin County, and Penelope Phillips, Hennepin County, expire July 1, 2014.  Ms. Dube and Ms. Phillips have served two terms and are not eligible to serve additional terms.

Qualifications and Interest Statements have been submitted by Linda Heine, (12:20) Brown County; Peter Knapp, (12:40)Ramsey County; Lawrence McDonough, (1:20) Hennepin County; Randi Roth, Ramsey County; Tom Tinkham, (12:30) Hennepin County; and Deja Weber, (1:00) Olmsted County.

4.   Review Qualifications and Interest Statements submitted for two positions on the Central Minnesota Legal Services Board. The terms of Carol Klaphake and Patrick O’Donnell expire April 30, 2014.  Ms, Klaphake and Mr. O’Donnell are eligible to serve additional terms. 

Qualifications and Interest Statements have been submitted by Carol Klaphake and Patrick O’Donnell.

5.      Review Qualifications and Interest Statements submitted MSBA/ABA Delegates. The terms of John Dornik, Patrick Kelly, Juan Hoyos, and Brent Routman expire at the end of the ABA meeting in August.  Mr. Kelly and Mr. Hoyos are eligible to serve additional terms.  Mr. Dornik and Mr. Routman have served three terms and are not eligible to serve additional terms.

Qualifications and Interest Statements have been submitted by Fred Finch, Hennepin County; Juan Hoyos, Ramsey County; Patrick Kelly, Ramsey County; and Michael Miller, Hennepin County.

General Policy - Study and make recommendations related to MSBA positions on public policy; petitions to the court regarding the operation of the courts and the regulation of the practice of law; referendum of the MSBA membership; and reports of MSBA sections and committees. more info

Governance - Study and make recommendations relating to sections, affiliated organizations, standing and ad hoc committees as well as new Assembly committees.

Judiciary - To study; to educate the public, the bar and legislators; and to recommend and help implement action by the MSBA regarding the preservation of a fair and impartial judiciary. more info

Legislative - Study and make recommendations related to legislative and lobbying priorities, and approve requests to establish official MSBA positions. more info
