Minutes for Life and the Law Committee
September 28, 2010 | 8:30-9:30am | MSBA Offices

Present: Elise Peterson (co-chair), Kendra Brodin (co-chair), Judith Rush, Joan Bibelhausen, Dawn, and Dennis Coyne

Agenda:
1. Subcommittee reports
2. Meeting time

1. A) Bike Ride Subcommittee:

-Dawn reports at least 20 riders. Elise thinks 24 total checked in (or were listed on registration form). We need to locate the sign-in form.
It may be in the boxes at MLM.

-Judy reports that she received feedback that we could start the ride further up and bring the ride up to Two Habors. Dawn suggested that if we start at the same location (Leif Erickson Park) then riders could do a shorter ride from there to the DECC.

-Dunn Bros was a good place to get coffee at a discount.

-Keep better track of who has registered through the various registration methods in the future. Also we need to have a list of riders or each rest stop in the future.

-Next year (in the spring) we need to meet with MinnCLE to better understand how to coordinate with them for the bike ride.

-We need to get everything from the MSBA storage area over to MLM (other water bottles, etc.)

-Dawn needs information regarding who won what and who donated prizes.
She will send the thank you letters out soon. Dawn will receive information from Joan or from the boxes at MLM

ACTION ITEM: Joan will send Dawn the information she has on riders and prizes. Dawn will also check in with Patrick at MLM if she needs anything else from the bike ride boxes he is storing in his office.

Side note: Kendra and Elise will each be attending subcommittee meetings. Elise will attend Bike Ride and Law School Working Group Meetings. Kendra will attend CLE subcommittee meetings. Kendra will also work on the website, possibly with a subcommittee.

1. B) CLE Subcommittee
-LCL is doing a few CLEs in regards to mental illness and other issues. We could potentially co-sponsor some of these CLEs.

-One of the roles we play as a committee is to get information out to attorneys in the MSBA about life and law issues including CLEs.

-Joan will send out a notice of CLEs we can co-sponsor. If any committee member has concerns about the CLE, an email should be sent to Joan in a set time period Joan will include in her email.
--Elise moves to approve Joan's suggestion regarding Life and Law Committee sponsorship of CLES.
--Judy seconds
--Motion passes

Check out March 2010 Bench and Bar article on stress issues. LCL is working on putting together a CLE with her.

1. C) Law School Working Group
-The website is ready to be launched. We need to meet with the MSBA Web Director to get the website over to MBSA hosting.

-The Law School Working Group won an award from the ABA Co-Lap, to be given at the national conference in October. The award information is attached.

-We need to announce this award. We should alert the MSBA and others, including MN Lawyers.

-Possibly the ABA Commission could announce the award, and we could forward that announcement on.

-We may have a meeting with Tim Groshens of the MSBA to let him know about the award and the work of the Life and Law Committee.
ACTION ITEM: At this time Joan will send an announcement over to Tim.

1. D) Life and Law Committee Website
-Kendra has an update on the LIfe and Law Committee Website. Kendra connected with Tram. In order to do updates we need to send them to Tram, she will use Dream Maker to make the changes and updates.

ACTION ITEM: Elise will ask Zeb if he could take a look at the Life and Law Committee website and give us advice.

ACTION ITEM: Kendra would like everyone to send her updates and suggestions for changes. She will meet with Tram continually over the year.
