The Future of the Minnesota Sex Offender Program

You’ve read about Judge Donovan Frank’s decision in the paper or social media, heard about it on MPR, or seen it on your local news. But what does it really mean and what does the future hold?  You will hear directly from experts who have been involved.

     • Ryan Magnus, a partner with Jones and Magnus in Mankato and a member of the Sex Offender Civil Commitment Advisory Task Force, provides an overview of how we got to where we are and the highlights of Judge Frank’s recent decision.

     • Eric Janus, former Dean of William Mitchell College of Law, wrote a an amicus brief with the ACLU-MN.   Dan Gustafson of Gustafson Gluek PLLC is lead attorney for the plaintiffs. Together they will present where they see the future of the sex offender program headed from the plaintiff perspective and potential remedies.

     • Mark Ostrem, Olmsted County Attorney, will discuss the challenges and issues from the government side and provide a preview of possible remedies they could recommend.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. and the presentation will being at 10:45 a.m.
