This CLE will examine the groundbreaking
SCOTUS decision Obergefell v. Hodges and its collateral effects in the
areas of employment and human rights law. Specifically the presenters will
discuss what Obergefell means for:
• The level of scrutiny
that should be applied to classifications on the basis of sexual
orientation;
• State laws barring discrimination on the basis of
marital and/or familial status and state entitlement laws (i.e., medical and
sick leave, bereavement, state COBRA laws, military spouse laws, etc.);
• Precedent barring public employers from discriminating on the
basis of sexual orientation.
• Civil Unions and Domestic
Partnership;
• Parentage Rights; and
• Accommodations
to those claiming marriage equality impacts their religious freedom.
If
you are an attorney practitioner or employed in the human resources area of an
organization, you’ll want learn how to navigate your work in light of this
ground-breaking decision.
