This presentation will cover the ethical considerations you
need to get started on your next, or perhaps first, pro bono case. This CLE will
examine everyday issues of ethics and professional responsibility in pro bono
and public interest practice.
Within the context of pro bono representation,
this program will review issues concerning:
. The attorney-client relationship
. Confidentiality, conflicts of interest and privilege
. Representing clients with diminished
capacity
. Limited scope representation
. Dealing with other third parties
. Ethical issues faced by firm and in-house
counsel undertaking pro
bono activities
. Working competently in new areas of law
. Unauthorized practice of law (particularly
practicing outside one's
own jurisdiction)
Lunch and registration will begin at 12:00 pm. The program will begin at 12:30 pm.

Nicholas Slade, Office of Professional
Responsibility
Nick Slade is an Assistant Director at the Office of
Professional Responsibility investigating and prosecuting ethics complaints
against Minnesota Attorneys.
Nick is also a member of the Minnesota Army National Guard and serves as a
Judge Advocate. He is currently assigned to the 247th Regional Trial Defense,
where he is Defense Counsel providing legal services to Soldiers facing criminal
or administrative discipline within the National Guard. He recently spent a year
on active duty with the US Army as Trial Counsel for the 1st Brigade, 4th
Infantry Division.
Prior to joining the Office of Professional Responsibility, Nick was a
partner in Barry, Slade, Wheaton & Helwig practicing exclusively in the area
of consumer rights litigation representing plaintiffs in state and federal
court.
