Deadline
to Register: Monday, October 16,
2017
As the wholesale energy markets are undergoing dramatic
changes, come learn about the role nuclear energy plays in the Minnesota energy
system. We are excited to have Pamela Forman Prochaska, Director of Nuclear
Regulatory Policy, Xcel Energy talk about the state of the nuclear industry. We
will discuss the status of Minnesota’s nuclear facilities including the number
of units and dispatchability (i.e., when a nuclear unit is dispatched
etc.). We will also discuss legal and policy issues regarding
re-licensing, uprating, and expanding storage (i.e., all things involved in
extending the life of a plant). We will also discuss recent cases
impacting the industry such as New Jersey Dept. of Environmental Protection v.
NRC (3rd Cir. 2009) and San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace v.
NRC (9th Cir. 2006) which affected the EIS process in general. Also, the
current status from a regulatory perspective of Monticello and Prairie Island (e.g., the
life of Monticello was extended). Lastly, whether Trump’s talk about re-visiting
Yucca Mountain is real and what that means for the
industry.
Please
