Event Description
Deadline to Register
Online: April 9, 2017
This CLE is jointly sponsored by the MSBA
Computer and Technology Law Section and the MSBA Children and the Law Section.
The panelists will focus on how children's online data and privacy are affected
by advertising tracking, mobile apps, the Internet of Things, eavesdropping
toys, and other emerging technologies. They will also explain the application of
the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which imposes privacy protection requirements on websites and online services directed to children
under age 13 and gives enforcement authority to the FTC and states'
attorneys general. Schools' educational technologies collect students' data and raise issues of privacy rights
under both COPPA and FERPA (the Buckley Amendment).
The Computer and Technology
Section Council will meet at 11:30 a.m., followed by lunch and the CLE at noon.
