How Stress, Mental Health and Substance Use Can
Impact Your Career, Client Relationships, Performance, and Advancement as a
Lawyer – And What You Can Do About It
Stress, anxiety, substance misuse and related issues are
potentially disabling conditions that may be present in our clients, our
colleagues and us. Understand the continuum from stress to distress
and the risk factors
in our profession. Learn to recognize and respond to triggers and challenges. Effective strategies for dealing
with these issues and stressors will be introduced. Judge Susan Miles will discuss
the research regarding stress and anxiety in our profession and her own
experience. Joan Bibelhausen will discuss mental health, including substance use issues, and
the importance of exploring biases toward ourselves and others in the
legal community.
