Election years pose particular issues for tax exempt
organizations. Depending on the particular tax exempt status of an
organization, the rules governing lobbying and political activities can
vary. Getting involved in legislative and electoral activities can be a
great way for an organization to promote the interests of its constituency, but
it is important to understand the particular limitations and reporting
requirements that apply to different types of entities.
Emily Robertson will provide an overview of the tax law
rules governing most common types of 501(c) organizations in their lobbying and
political activities, including a discussion of the implications of common
election year activities.
This is a presentation of the Business Law Section’s
Nonprofit Corporations Committee brown bag lunch series. We will meet at
the MSBA offices at
Noon. Bring
your own lunch. Water and soft drinks will be provided.
