Alexandra Frisbie, Senior Intellectual Property Attorney at United Technologies Corporation

Carrie Hefte, Senior Company Counsel,Intellectual Property Group at Wells Fargo

Alexandra Frisbie  joined United Technologies Corporation (UTC) in Farmington, Connecticut as a Senior Intellectual Property Attorney in 2007.  Since 2011, Alexandra has been with UTC’s Climate, Controls & Security (CCS) operating unit, managing the global patent portfolio for the Fire Safety Solutions businesses, protecting technologies such as hazard detection and notification, fire suppression systems, and flame and gas leak detection.  Alexandra also managed the global trademark portfolio for legacy UTC Fire & Security businesses, during which time she was responsible for protecting and enforcing well-known brands of life safety and security products.  She supports global supply chain and business development organizations in IP-related transactional matters, including negotiation of joint development, supply and license agreements and other transfers of technology and IP assets.  Previously, Alexandra managed IP matters relating to elevator hoistway components, escalators and passenger conveyor technologies for Otis Elevator Company, also a business of United Technologies Corporation.

Before joining UTC, Alexandra was Senior IP Counsel at MeadWestvaco Corporation, where she managed all intellectual property matters for its Consumer Packaging Group, and was an associate attorney at law firms in New York City and Ohio.

Alexandra serves on the Rutgers University – Materials Science and Engineering External Advisory Board and the University of Dayton School of Law – Program in Law and Technology Advisory Board. She is a founding member of the Corporate Practice Committee of the NYIPLA, and served on the NYIPLA Board of Directors from 2006-2009.   Although she is not a teacher, she seizes any opportunity to challenge kids (and grown-ups) to be creative, to think innovatively, and to generate and respect intellectual property.

Carrie Hefte has been defending the famous Wells Fargo brand for over 15 years.  She began her career at the Oppenheimer Wolff and Donnelly law firm as a bankruptcy attorney.  At Norwest Corporation she added the intellectual property work to her bankruptcy practice.  When Norwest acquired Wells Fargo, Carrie suddenly had a famous brand to protect and she found she needed to focus solely on IP issues for the company.  In addition to trademark clearance and prosecution work, educating employees on how to avoid copyright infringing activities is a passion for Carrie.   With 84 different lines of business, each having its own marketing department, there is no end to the number of employees who need to be educated on copyright law.  Carrie is on the Amicus Committee for the International Trademark Association and recently spoke on a panel about the B&B Hardware Supreme Court case at the Midwest IP Institute.  Carrie just returned from Alicante, Spain, where she spoke at a training session for European Union and OHIM trademark examiners.
