Deadline to Register: Monday, October 19, 2015
Approximately 60% of the contested
case hearings at the Office of Administrative Hearings
(OAH) involve self-represented litigants. Last year the Administrative Law Section co-sponsored a
CLE on the Civil Gideon movement in Minnesota. Advocacy for the civil
right to counsel for cases involving basic needs continues to grow
in Minnesota. However, there is still much work to be done. In the
meantime, many individuals continue to represent themselves in administrative
proceedings where the outcome has a significant impact on their livelihood. This
CLE will provide participants with an update on the civil right to counsel
movement in Minnesota, an overview of the numbers and types of cases involving
self-represented litigants at OAH, and information on a new pro bono panel for
contested case hearings sponsored by the MSBA Administrative Law Section. Come
learn about this excellent and exciting new volunteer opportunity for attorneys
of all experience levels.
A light breakfast of coffee and rolls will be
provided.
