Law in the Grocery Aisle: All About The USDA National Organic Program

Event Description

Deadline to Register: May 12, 2015

There's a lot going on behind the organic seal on your carton of milk. Certified organic foods must be grown and processed according to a complex set of regulations set by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Organic Program. The National Organic Program regulates use of the word “organic” and the USDA organic seal. This session will cover the unusual history and structure of the National Organic Program, explain the difference between "organic" and "natural," and discuss the requirements farmers, processors, and retailers must follow to maintain organic certification.
