A marital dissolution action in Minnesota involves a lot of detail on a wide range of issues, far wider than in most other types of civil action.  All of those issues have to be anticipated and all necessary facts alleged in the petition (and answer or counter-petition).  All of them have to be reflected in the eventual conclusions of law, findings of fact, and judgment and decree, whether stipulated or proposed.
Beth Barbosa will share her insights into how best to handle a typical marital dissolution, to give you confidence in having covered all the necessary elements, and having done so as efficiently as possible for your client.  She will address common issues and oversights, and the appropriate use of checklists, model template forms, and document assembly systems in making a lawyer’s work both thorough and efficient, while allowing adaptation and customization for the varying or more complex circumstances of a particular client’s case.

Presenters:
Beth Barbosa is a partner with the firm of Gilbert Alden.  She has nearly two decades of experience as an attorney, and focuses her family law practice on complex cases.  She was the main contributor to the most recent revision of the MSBA’s set of forms for family law attorneys and continues as a member of the Family Law Form Committee.  Beth often presents on family law issues at Continuing Legal Education events.  She was first admitted to the bar in 1999, and the Minnesota bar in 2002, and is an active member of several bar associations, as well as a Qualified Neutral, Parenting Time Expeditor, and graduate of the Harvard Negotiation Institute.

Michael Trittipo is an attorney editor with the MSBA.  He earned his J.D. cum laude in 1981, and practiced law for several years.  He currently maintains the MSBA's mndocs templates using the HotDocs platform.
