Family Court Enhancement Project - Improving Access to Justice

Event Description

Deadline to Register: May 11

Minnesota’s Fourth Judicial District is one of four sites awarded federal funding from the Office on Violence Against Women to participate in the Family Court Enhancement Project. This presentation will share data resulting from the Child-Related Relief Order for Protection calendar pilot and the work of the grant over the past three years.

The Family Law Section membership will meet prior to the CLE at 9:30 a.m. for the Annual Meeting.

Presenters:

Mary Madden | Referee Fourth Judicial District, Family Court

Mary Madden has served as a Family Court Referee in Ramsey County and now Hennepin County for the past 8 years. Before joining the family court bench, she practiced exclusively family law for close to 20 years, and served as a Child Support Magistrate for 11 of those years. She has served as a member of the Minnesota State Early Case Management/Early Neutral Evaluation Steering Committee; is a former president of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts – Minnesota Chapter Board of Directors; and was also a member of the Custody Dialogue Group whose work preceded the passage of the new "best interest" factors in Minn. Stat. § 518.17 in 2015.  She is currently the lead judicial officer on the Fourth Judicial District's Family Court Enhancement Project – a 4-year demonstration project funded by the Office of Violence Against Women.

Shannon Wachter | Project Coordinator, Family Court Enhancement Project

Shannon Wachter graduated from the University of St. Thomas School of Law in 2015. She worked as the administrative assistant for the Family Court Enhancement Project while in law school. She then went on to clerk for Referee Mary Madden at the Family Justice Center before becoming the project coordinator of the Family Court Enhancement Project. She was admitted to practice law in October 2015.
